How It Works

Help is available for those struggling with addictions (alcoholism, drug, sex, gambling, food and others), health related issues (chronic illness, debilitating disease, obsessive compulsive disorder OCD, ADD/ADHD, dietary and eating disorders, mental health disease including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, suicidal ideology and others), life changes (divorce, death, loss of a pet, grief)

Reach Out

You can reach out for personal reasons or on behalf of someone else.  You will be contacted by the Director to anonymously discuss your struggles.  Confidentiality is important to us and conversations are private.  You may then be asked to meet with us in person if you are comfortable doing so.

Finances

Finances will also be considered as individual recommendations are made.  Efforts will be made to identify means of financial aid when needed.  We want everyone to have access to the help they need.

Resources

You will be provided with the resources to help you contact the program(s) that best meet your needs to maximize your chance for successful treatment and recovery. Each circumstance is unique, and recovery plans may include: referrals to medical practitioners, inpatient or outpatient treatment centers, hospitalization, counseling, community group programs, and step based programs.  Recovery processes may also include entry into a monitoring program where random drug and alcohol testing may be performed to aid you in accountability.

Success

AVPWP has a high success rate of recovery from illness/ addiction in those cases where participants are willing to accept assistance.  AVPWP can advocate for you with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Examiners, your employer and other members in your community.
